I spent the weekend in Minneapolis, Minnesota at a Lindy Hop dance event. Just as I was settling into the constant crisis of graduate school (year 3), I put off reality for a long weekend with some old friends, dipping a toe into a past life. I stayed with my friend Nick, who was also hosting Josh, Davina, Nina, Luke, Todd, Lily, and Andy. Nine people and one bathroom worked out somehow.
We spent the weekend playing Guitar Hero, watching LOST (half of the group, uninitiated), sharing Black Label JW, and also finding time for dancing by routinely resting our weary heads around 8 AM. The main event featured inspiring performances, 3-minute love affairs, and several changes of clothes. I appreciated what was necessarily a frenzy of 2-minute conversations with friends and acquaintances I hadn't seen (in some/most cases) years, but was much more content in the down times with Nick and his other house guests.
While it's no longer the focus of my life, and probably never could be again, here's to getting my toes wet from time to time.
Also, once again, I was too lame to take pictures throughout the weekend, so all I have are pictures from just before we all left for the airport on Monday.
